Nowadays, there are more abbreviations than cars on the road. Well… we might have made that fact up, but it certainly seems like it! So if you’re not entirely sure what NVQ means, then you’re certainly not alone. NVQ stands for National Vocational Qualification, which is a work-based qualification focusing on the skills and knowledge of individuals, preparing them for employment in this instance within the construction industry by allowing them to demonstrate their abilities within the career path they have chosen.
NVQs are known for their flexibility, giving individuals the opportunity to learn whilst working. Completion of an NVQ shows that a person has met and understands the national standard for their role in question and will enhance their employment opportunities down the line. NVQs come in several different levels, with construction NVQs consisting of level 2 through to level 7.
NVQ Level 2, the equivalent of GCSEs at grades 9–4, is typically the entry level onto the NVQ Ladder. Some NVQ Level 3 qualifications will require a successfully completed Level 2 NVQ. For those who desire a career in construction management or more technical roles, NVQ Level 4 is a must. The Level 4 NVQ qualifications deliver specialist training at a detailed level, equivalent to an undergraduate degree. Courses at this level are designed for those with existing management experience. Successful completion grants delegates the opportunity to obtain their CSCS Gold Supervisory Card, with the natural progression leading onto the NVQ Level 6 qualifications.
The Level 6 NVQ is one of the higher levels of NVQ training, designed for those already working within construction management who wish to obtain their CSCS Black Manager Card. There are 2 available NVQ Level 6 courses via Easybook Training. The NVQ Level 6 Diploma in Construction Site Management or the NVQ Level 6 Diploma in Construction Contracting Operations Management.
In order to take the NVQ Level 6 Diploma In Construction Site Management delegates should already be working in a position of site manager or similar role within building and civil engineering, highways maintenance and repair, residential development, conservation or demolition.
The NVQ Level 6 Diploma in Construction Contracting Operations Management is designed for experienced managers within the construction industry who want to continue to develop their knowledge and potentially progress into more advanced positions such as planners, buyers & estimators.
The NVQ Level 7 Diploma in Construction Senior Management is currently the highest level of NVQ qualification available through Easybook Training and is one of the highest possible NVQ levels a delegate can achieve. This level 7 NVQ qualification is designed for those working within the construction industry in positions of Senior Site Manager, Project Manager or Company Director who wish to achieve the highest vocational qualification available within the UK construction industry. Upon completion of the NVQ Level 7 Diploma in Construction Senior Management, delegates will be eligible to apply for their CSCS Black Manager Card and also become a Member of the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB).
